Thank you for this email
Unfortunately, we do not have access to the Jobcentre Plus vacancy
database and cannot offer jobsearch / customer matching through this
'contact us' emails service. You can, however, use our services to look
for work, even if you are not registered unemployed.
To view available jobs online, go to
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/index.htm
You can also view these vacancies, together with training and voluntary
opportunities and general careers advice, on the Worktrain website,
www.worktrain.gov.uk
In most cases, to apply for a job or to obtain further information you
will need to call our Jobseeker Direct service on 0845 6060 234 with the
reference number of any job you are interested in. This service can also
help you with your job search. For some vacancies – 'Apply Direct'
vacancies – you will be given the employer's contact details alongside
the job description so you can apply direct to them without any
intervention from Jobcentre Plus staff. Please do not send applications
through this email service, as we are unable to process them.
You can, of course, visit any Jobcentre or Jobcentre Plus office without
an appointment to search for work on one of our touch-screen terminals,
known as 'Jobpoints'. You will also have access to free-call telephones
so that you can enquire about jobs at no cost to yourself.
There are a number of other (non-governmental) job search websites that
you may find useful. These include www.fish4jobs.co.uk, www.reed.co.uk,
www.topjobs.co.uk , and www.guardian.co.uk/jobs to name a few.
Newspapers are another important source of jobs. Local and regional
newspapers carry advertisements for all types of jobs. Thursday tends to
be the most common day for local papers. National broadsheet papers
(such as the Guardian, Times, Independent, Telegraph, Financial Times)
tend to advertise jobs aimed at graduates, executives, managers, and
specialist.
Private employment agencies may also be able to help you acquire work.
There are numerous high street employment agencies, such as Manpower,
Reed, Kelly, Adecco, Horizon, and so on. You will find contact details
in your local Yellow Pages. Alternatively, visit the Recruitment and
Employment Confederation website, www.rec.uk.com This website will help
you select suitable agencies for the type of work you are looking for.
Another option would be to write to companies direct with a CV and
covering letter to see if they have any suitable vacancies or will
consider you for future vacancies. This is known as making a
'speculative' application. To find contact details for potential
employers, consult your local Yellow Pages or visit them online at
www.yell.co.uk

Hi,
ok, thank you very much for your e-mail.
I recommended Reed to a Norwegian IT-expert in Ireland, who possibly is
moving to Liverpool, and have read on my blog, since I sometimes write
about jobseeking-there, who asked me to recomend and employment-agency,
in Liverpool.
(Is there by the way a specialist employment-agency for IT-jobs in
Liverpool, if it's ok to ask.
I wonder a bit about this myself as well, since I haven't had my
IT-degree that long, and have mostly tried to prioritise getting my CV
and applications better, etc).
I let the Jobcentre determine if I need help with the applications,
(like you mention that Reed have a 6 week support-course to do help with
appliactions).
I got through the screening-process, for an IT-job in Chester now, after
going to the Reed-course, with my application, so I think it was a good
course.
Thank you very much again for the help.
I send a copy of this e-mail to the Jobcentre, since I've started
updating them.
Best regards,
Erik Ribsskog
