Hei,

Hi Erika,

How’s it going?

Software has certainly been in the news a fair bit recently hasn’t it?!

Excel got itself caught up in COVID-19 reporting issues in the UK  (which sparked a lot of conversations about using the right/wrong tool for the job),  the US Supreme Court heard another round in the Google v Oracle API battle (which we discuss more in the podcast below), and Microsoft (finally) announced the end of Open licensing.

More big news is the recent announcement that IBM is going to spin out its “managed infrastructure services” business into an independent company – currently known as “NewCo” – which, on day one, will be “twice the size of its nearest competitor”, according to IBM. This is all to help increase their “maniacal focus” on hybrid cloud and AI, so I’m sure we’ll see further changes as they continue down this path.

Finally, we had a lot of conversations about audits at our Wisdom Online North America conference last week and it’s clear that many of the Tier 2 and Tier 3 vendors are active at the moment – so be prepared for audits from any direction!

As always – stay safe, stay positive, and have a great weekend!

Cheers,

Rich
