    Hi,

you write that the English-test I took at Sunderland, was an informal one.
But it wasn't, as I understood it.
All Study-abroad students had to take this test, in one of the first weeks, of the term.

And test-results were put up, on message-boards, in the language-center hall, and only those who had the score 'A', didn't have to take English-classes.
So it was nothing informal with this test, at all, I can't see that I wrote that it was an informal test, it was an obligatory test.

I hope it's easier for you to understand now, this should be piece of cake to understand what I mean, for the university.
    Yours sincerely,
    Erik Ribsskog

    Dear Mr Ribsskog

Thank you for drawing to our attention the poor customer support you received when you contacted the University as a former student enquiring about your English test results.

I have investigated your complaint and I accept that our response to you has fallen well below the standard of customer service we would routinely expect to deliver in response to such enquiries.

What I have discovered is that when the Gateway team received your initial enquiry they initiated an appropriate search to try to find the answer that you needed but that they failed to reply to tell you they had done this and that it might take some time.  When you sent a reminder we again checked on the progress of the enquiry but failed to reply to let you know the current status of your enquiry.  I have identified this as a shortcoming in our process of responding to some enquiries and will address this by updating our process for handling such queries and by staff training.

I regret that a member of staff you asked for help failed to adequately find and give you the information you requested and this will be dealt with appropriately.

In terms of your English test results I understand that you undertook an informal test to identify whether you needed to study English for Academic Purposes.  Your test result showed that you did not need to study English for Academic Purposes.

However, as this was an informal diagnostic test only we did not routinely record your score and we are unable to provide any result.  If you had needed to study the formal English course we would have recorded your results in that instance.

I notice from your correspondence with us on this matter and from the records we hold that you appear to have ended your studies with us prematurely.  This means your current student record at Sunderland is not totally complete. If you wish to write and let us know the reasons for leaving early it could help to close your student record with us in an appropriate fashion.

May I thank you once again for drawing attention to this customer service issue and reiterate that we take such complaints very seriously and use them as an opportunity to improve our policies and processes.

    Yours sincerely

    Hi Danielle,

I sent a complaint to the University of Sunderland, since I've experienced extremly poor customer-support, from them, when I've contacted them.
I also explained the problems today, when you called them, and was just transfered from department to department.

    Hope this was alright!

    To: peter.fidler@sunderland.ac.uk

    Hi,

I've experienced some extremly poor customer-support when I've contacted the university as a former student.
    Here are some examples:

    – When I contacted the Student records department, on the phone, last year, I was told that they couldn't find my file. I had to travel by train to Sunderland, to Liverpool, to get my student-number, (049039692), in the Gateway, at the City campus.

    – I sent an e-mail, (which is forwarded with this e-mail), to the Gateway, on 27/7, and a reminder on 10/8, but I didn't get any answer from the Gateway.
    – I then contacted Joy Taylor, (who I got the e-mail address to, when I traveled to Sunderland, and went to the Gateway there, earlier this year), and asked her who was responsible for the Gateway. She just wrote that she didn't know, and didn't bother finding this information.

    – Today I was at Working Links, here in Liverpool, and Danielle there, tried to contact the University about my file from the English-test etc., (which I got the best result on), but she was just transfered from department to department.

So I'm wondering if you have problems with 'mob', at the University, that are messing with the Study Abroad-students?
I hope you have the chance to sort these problems, since I think a university, shouldn't treat people as bad as this.

    Yours sincerely,
    Erik Ribsskog

    Subject: Problems with the

    Gateway/Fwd: Reminder/Fwd: English-test

    Hi,

I got your e-mail address, when I was in Sunderland, earlier this

year, regarding some problems when I called to the University, last year,

when they couldn't find me on the computer-system there, and I've also

been in contact with you, on e-mail, after that.

Now, the problem is, that the Gateway isn't answering my

    e-mails.

I'm trying to get hold of a file, showing that I got the best

result, on the initial language-test, in English, that students from

abroad, have to take, at the begining of the Study Abroad year.

Since I think that a file like this, would be fine to have, when

applying for jobs, in the UK etc.

So I hoped that you could please help me with the problem, with that

the Gateway aren't answering my e-mails.

    Yours sincerely,

    Erik Ribsskog

    Hi,

I studied at the University of Sunderland in 2004 and 2005, on the

    study

    abroad programme.

I had some problems with my study-finance from Norway, so I had

    to end

my studies before I got my degree, due to the problems with this, and

    with

my home university not wanting to accept the modules I'd chosen, for

    some

    reason.

But, I think it looks a bit stupid, not to have any files from when I

    studied

in Sunderland, so I thought that perhaps I could try to get a file

    with the

result of my English-test, that all study abroad students had to

    take,

where I got the best result, so that I didn't have to take English

    courses.

That file would have been very fine to have.

So I was wondering if you know who I should contact then, that

    has to do

with files like this, at the Language-study department.

Thanks in advance for the help!

    Yours sincerely,

    Erik

    Ok,

what's your position at the University, if I may ask?
Who's in charge of the Gateway?
    Regards,

  • Da jeg var hos tannlegen på onsdag. (In Norwegian)

    Men men.

    Hvem vet.

    Erik Ribsskog
